Triglycerides are fatty substances in your blood. Your body uses them for energy and stores them as reserves.

Your triglycerides are often measured during a cholesterol blood test. In addition to LDL and HDL, your doctor can also see how your triglycerides are doing.

If your triglyceride levels are elevated, this may be associated with a higher risk of arteriosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.
Very high triglyceride levels also increase the risk of (acute) pancreatitis: inflammation of the pancreas.
