FH Awareness Day 2025

It's International FHAwareness Day 2025! In 2024, 166,143 children were born in the Netherlands (according to Statistics Netherlands). With an estimated prevalence of 1 in 300, that means around 554 children have FH.

Patients with (suspected) hereditary forms of high cholesterol are welcome at the Internal Medicine outpatient clinic within the St. Antonius Hospital in the Utrecht region. Internist-vascular physicians Bart Rövekamp and Annemarie Pijlman provide care here for individuals with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH). Since 2024, St. Antonius has been a LEEFH center.

Roeland Huijgen and Anneke van Paassen are both vascular medicine specialists at Spaarne Gasthuis hospital. They are strong advocates of a robust network for FH care, both within their own hospital and beyond. General practitioners play an important role in this.

People with FH and type 2 diabetes are doubly disadvantaged

Adriaan Kooy is an internist and vascular physician at Treant, an umbrella organization for hospitals in Drenthe, and also an associate professor at the University Medical Center Groningen. Now that Treant is a LEEFH center, care for people with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) in the north of the country can save even more lives, according to the physician and researcher.

Webinar ‘FH consultation hour for (expectant) parents’ (now available to watch again)

On December 16, 2024, Harteraad and the LEEFH foundation jointly organized a webinar for (expectant) parents. Speakers: internist Jeanine Roeters van Lennep from Erasmus MC and pediatrician Willemijn Corpeleijn from Amsterdam UMC. Colleagues from LEEFH were also present to share their knowledge.
