Bert Wiegman and Martina Cornel Join the Supervisory Board of LEEFH

After many years, Rob van der Kolk and Hester den Ruijter are stepping down as members of LEEFH’s Supervisory Board. We are very grateful to them for all the years they have contributed to the organization. Bert Wiegman and Martina Cornel will succeed them and, with their extensive experience, will bring a wealth of expertise to the board.

If necessary, of course, we’d be happy to introduce you to Martina and Bert.

Martina Cornel

Martina Cornel is a trained physician and epidemiologist. She is a professor of community genetics and public health genomics in the Department of Human Genetics at Amsterdam UMC. She is deeply involved in promoting the responsible use of genetics. Martina is president of the European Society of Human Genetics and a board member of the Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde. Martina was a member of the Health Council of the Netherlands and the Population Screening Committee and is an expert in the field of newborn screening.

Bert Wiegman

Bert Wiegman is a leading international expert in the field of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and elevated lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] in children. He worked as a pediatrician at Amsterdam UMC and has treated more than 4,000 children with hereditary dyslipidemia during his career. Bert remains active in research and education. He is affiliated with the European patient organization “FH Europe Foundation” as secretary of the board and a member of the Lp(a) international working group. Bert was involved in the development of key national and international guidelines and served for many years as medical director of the AMC campus of Amsterdam UMC.
