It's International FHAwareness Day 2025! In 2024, 166,143 children were born in the Netherlands (according to Statistics Netherlands). With an estimated prevalence of 1 in 300, that means around 554 children have FH.
Parents are quick to have their children tested for FH. In recent years, 50% of family members tested were 18 years old or younger. Some parents choose to have their children tested at birth, using the so-called umbilical cord procedure. Early detection pays off!
