Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH)

HeFH is a hereditary form of FH in which you have a single gene defect. This often causes your LDL cholesterol to be higher than normal.

Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) is a hereditary form of high LDL cholesterol ("bad" cholesterol). With HeFH, you have one gene with a defect. You usually inherit this defect from one of your parents.

HeFH is the most common form of FH. In the Netherlands, it is often stated that FH occurs in approximately 1 in 300 people.
