A letter from the LEEFH Foundation: has your family been tested yet?

At the end of September, we sent a letter to 20,000 people diagnosed with FH. It is quite possible that you also received this letter. In this letter, we ask you to check whether your family has already been tested for FH. First-degree relatives (children, brothers, sisters, and parents) have a 50% chance of also having FH. And we know that approximately 40,000 people have not yet been identified.

A "family letter" is also attached to the letter. It is possible to give this letter to family members. You can also download the letter so that you can email it to your family.

LEEFH has received many responses to this letter. We are trying to be as accessible as possible and will respond as quickly as we can. We apologize if we are unable to do so in all cases.

The most frequently asked questions and responses are as follows:

How can my family members (my children) get tested for FH?

You or your family can request an FH test kit via our website.

At what age can I have my children tested?

We recommend conducting DNA testing from the age of 6.

Why am I receiving this letter? I have already been examined.

That's right. Our question is whether your family is aware that FH has been diagnosed in the family. We want to give them the opportunity to be tested for FH. If the family is already aware, then of course you don't need to do anything.

I have relocated.
