On March 24, Esther Duller celebrated the launch of her book FH, wat is dat? Over hengeltjes en cholesterol (FH, what is that? About fishing rods and cholesterol). It is an online book with facts and activities for children with FH in the family.
Without timely treatment, this form of hereditary high cholesterol causes (serious) cardiovascular problems at a young age. The online book is published by De Hart&Vaatgroep (The Heart & Vascular Group) and helps families cope with Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH).

During the launch, Esther Duller read the online book for the very first time to a group of children at the Emma Children's Hospital. Seventeen years ago, her husband died at the age of 32 from the effects of FH. A year later, her eldest daughter was diagnosed with the same hereditary condition. "It's great that there is finally an online book that helps parents tell their children about FH. Children can then learn how to deal with it at an early age. I wish I had had a book like this years ago," says Esther.

Until now, there has been no educational material available for children with FH in the family. However, there was a strong need for this among parents. This was evident from a survey among volunteers and members of De Hart&Vaatgroep (The Heart & Vascular Group). "We then asked parents, children, and caregivers what exactly they wanted. The result was the online FH activity book. This helps FH families, and we hope that many children and parents will enjoy using it," says Marlieke Janssen Ten Haaf, relationship manager at De Hart&Vaatgroep.
